Essendon young gun Dyson Heppell is confident his side can take plenty out of Friday night’s loss to Sydney to propel it into the second half of the season.

After conceding seven goals in the opening term the Bombers matched the Swans for much of the last three quarters.

Heppell said his side took plenty out of the loss that can assist them turn around their form after the bye.

“Sydney are a fantastic side and they are in great form at the moment,” Heppell said.

“That was actually a fantastic experience because I think that we took a lot out of that game.”

“Great sides stand up in big games, their pressure around the contest and spread from stoppages as well as the way they moved the ball was fantastic.”

“It was a really good experience for us because throughout that match we were able to match them in patches.”

Heppell said the way the team fought back after a poor first quarter was a pleasing sign.

“We found time where we were able to win our own contested footy and kick goals quite freely in stages so we did show we could match it with them.”

“We certainly got on top in the ruck and we got a lot of good entries but their structures around the ball held up for them.”

Heppell once again starred for the Dons on Friday night with a 31-disposal game to go along with 11 marks.

The young Bomber is pleased with his start to the season.

“I suppose it has been good to string a few good games together and try to drive that consistency.”
