Daniher stands out in Dons loss
An undermanned Essendon VFL side has gone down by 82 points to the Casey Scorpions at Windy Hill on Saturday afternoon despite a stand out performance from big man Joe Daniher.
The Bombers rested a number of players from the match with Jason Ashby, Martin Gleeson and Nathan Lovett-Murray all sitting out the game as a result of the AFL side’s short turn around between matches.
Casey kicked the first three goals of the game before captain Ben Duscher got the red and black on the scoreboard but they trailed for the remainder of the afternoon.
A fourteen goal second half setting up the win for the away side with youngster Jesse Hogan and David Rodan looking impressive.
Daniher was clearly the best for Essendon finishing with 12 marks and four goals for the match.
The youngster’s strength and leap were on display as he often out marked more than two opponents and made the most of the small amount of ball inside the Bombers forward half.
Travis Colyer was a highlight through the midfield as was Will Hams who both gathered plenty of the ball throughout the match.
Cory Dell’Olio coped a heavy knock midway through the third term and looked to be in serious trouble before returning to the field and running freely to finish the game.
Essendon will take on North Ballarat next Saturday afternoon kicking off at 2pm.
Final Score
Casey 25.11.161
Essendon 11.13.79
Best: Daniher, Hams, Colyer, Duscher.
