Daniher returns for Bendigo

Bendigo Bombers will welcome back Darcy Daniher from a back injury when they take on bottom of the table Collingwood at Princess Park this Sunday.A win over the Northern Bullants before the split round restored some confidence among the young side and with a favourable run home and being out of the top eight by only two games the Bombers remain well in contention to play in September.

Essendon will be keen to get one back on old rivals Collingwood when the teams meet at the MCG on Saturday. The nightmare ANZAC day encounter would still be fresh in the Bombers’ memories after the Magpies sealed a 73-point win, and Essendon will be desperate to turn the tables this week.



Fletcher returns for Collingwood clash

Dustin Fletcher will return from an ankle injury to replace Jay Neagle (who is out with a fractured ankle) in the only change to the Bombers’ team this week. Andrew Welsh has recovered from a head knock and Angus Monfries has been named despite also suffering an ankle injury.

Groin operation rules Houli out for season

Bachar Houli will have a groin operation in Sydney on Wednesday and will miss the rest of the season. Team manager, David Calthorpe, said the 19-year-old visited the surgeon this week and was told he needed an adductor release. “He has the early signs of osteitis pubis,” Calthorpe said.

Essendon players have kicked some freakish goals in the past two season. Scott Lucas added to them last weekend against Richmond when he kicked a bouncing ball from tight on the boundary straight through the middle. But was it better that Adam McPhee’s Round 5 effort against St Kilda or Matthew Lloyd’s quick-thinking back foot goal?
